Food & Fable – Food For Change

The inaugural Food and Fable takes place on October 23 at the Nevada Theatre when Briarpatch Coop sponsors the film Food for Change in celebration of National Cooperatives month. The doors will open at 6:00 pm, with free food, beverage bar (all beverage purchases benefit Nevada County Grown), and socializing until the event begins at 6:30 pm. Tom Wade, the Emcee, will introduce the evening, and we’ll view the movie with discussion to follow.

The Film: Food for Change tracks the ups and downs of cooperatives from the Great Depression to the present through rare archival footage, animation, graphics, and interviews with co-op leaders. Co-ops across the US are organizing screenings to educate their members and the general public about the nation’s longest surviving alternative economic system, which is also a social movement based on principles of cooperation. Food and Fable: This will be the inaugural event for Nevada County Grown, BriarPatch Food Co-op and Nevada County Media’s series of “Food and Fable” events. These organizations have joined together to continue establishing Nevada County as a food lover’s or as a food lovers’ cultural hub and destination, a place where people can come to eat local food, learn about local food systems, and celebrate the central role food plays in human culture.
